NEET Counselling 2022 is slated to be conducted once the NEET results are declared. The Medical Counselling Committee of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) for Undergraduate Medical Courses conducts NEET counselling in the online mode.
Counselling is one of the most important parts of a competitive exam, and when the exam is one of the largest entrance exams in the country, the process becomes all the more important. The NEET counselling is the juncture at which most of the students get confused and make mistakes. This is also the phase that is “make or break” apart from the exam duration.
NEET counselling is the process where the students choose and organize their college preferences. Then, the counselling authority goes through their choices and allocates them a seat keeping their rank in consideration.
MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, BVSc & AH, and BSc Nursing admissions will be conducted online by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for NEET 2022. MCC will announce the counselling dates for NEET 2022 after the examination and result announcement. In addition, the state conducting authority will release the NEET state rank 2022.
Candidates appearing for NEET and preparing to take part in the AIQ NEET counselling must get themselves registered through the online mode. One must ensure that in order to appear for counselling, one has to clear the minimum percentile, the NEET cut-off to qualify for the counselling process. For this, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has been deputed for 15% seats of the sum input from all the government colleges for all the candidates falling under AIQ (except for colleges of J&K state).
How does NEET Counselling 2022 work?
MCC counselling is the method used for admission to MBBS and BDS programmes under the AIQ, in deemed and central universities, and ESIC/AFMS colleges. These medical courses are open to candidates who qualify for the NEET exam.
Types of NEET 2022 Counselling
There are two types of NEET counselling: All India and State. The counselling process for NEET-UG is as follows.
All India Quota Seats MCC Counselling. AIQ NEET 2022 will offer admission to 15% of government medical and dental colleges seats, all seats in deemed universities, central universities, and ESIC, AFMC, and AIIMS & JIPMER.B SC Nursing in Central Institute
State Quota seats for NEET UG Counselling. All seats in private minority/non-minority unaided/aided medical/dental colleges in the state will be filled through NEET counselling in 2022 for 85% of the seats in state government colleges.
What is the eligibility criteria for NEET counselling 2022?
Only NEET qualified candidates are eligible to apply for NEET 2021 counselling.
Jammu and Kashmir candidates will not be eligible to participate in All India NEET counselling unless they give their assent.

Reservation of AIQ Seats in NEET 2022
The Government of India has implemented 27 per cent OBC reservation (Non-Creamy Layer) and 10 per cent EWS reservation in 15 per cent Under Graduate (UG) All India Quota seats (MBBS/BDS) (contributed by the State/UTs to the Central Pool) in the selection of candidates through NEET UG counselling for MBBS. This reservation will take effect from the current Academic session 2022-22.

NEET 2022 Counselling Procedure
Candidates who qualified for NEET 2022 and wanted to participate in the counselling process for the AIQ seats in Deemed Universities/ Central Universities/ ESIC colleges have to register online on the official website of MCC. The process of NEET 2022 counselling has been explained in detail below:
Step 1 : Registration
- Candidates need to register on the official website of MCC – www.mcc.nic.in or directly enter https://mcc.nic.in
- Click on the ‘Online Registration’ tab.
- Enter the NEET 2022 Roll Number, Password and Security Pin
- Candidates needed to fill in details such as their name, registration number, personal details, academic details and the details mentioned on their NEET result

Step 3 : Submission and Locking of Choice
- After completing the registration process, candidates need to fill in the choices by logging into the registered account on the MCC portal
- They need to choose the course/ college in the desired order of preference
- They can fill in any number of choices from the list provided
- Candidates can add/delete a choice
- They can also move up/ move down a choice as per their preference
- After filling in the choices, they must save a copy of the choices filled for future reference
Step 4 : Seat Allotment Result
- Based on the AIR obtained in NEET 2022 and the choices filled in the registration form, a seat allocation list will be prepared
- The seat allocation list will be uploaded online on the official website of MCC
Step 5 : Reporting to the college allotted
A candidate must report at the designated college to complete the admission formalities after the seat allotment. It is not mandatory to join or report in the first round. However, candidates wishing to take the seat or upgrade to a higher choice must join and report. In the second round, however, seat allotment must be followed by reporting and joining unless candidates opt for the exit with forfeiture where they lose their security deposit. While reporting to the allotted college, candidates must submit the original copies of the specified documents.
Documents Required for NEET Counselling 2022
Candidates reporting to the allocated institute for confirmation of the seat must carry the following documents with them:
- NEET admit card 2022
- NEET result 2022 or rank letter
- Class 10 mark sheet and certificate
- Class 12 mark sheet and certificate
- Valid, non-expired and government-issued photo ID proof
- Six to eight passport-sized photographs (preferably the same as the one submitted with the NEET 2022 application form)
- Caste Certificate (if applicable)
- Disability Certificate (if applicable)
- Provisional allotment letter
*Candidates must carry both original and photocopies of the above-mentioned documents.
Exit with forfeiture vs Exit with Free Exit in NEET Counselling 2022?
Free Exit (only for round 1) – If a candidate allotted a seat in round 1 does not report/join the allotted college, he/she would not be penalized (security deposit will not be forfeited ). Such candidates will be eligible for subsequent rounds.
Exit with forfeiture – If a candidate is allotted a seat in round 2 and does not want to join the allotted seat he/she can still exit with forfeiture (losing security amount deposited) within the given time period.
Candidates who have joined the allotted seat in the second round would not be eligible for resigning/surrender of the seat and will not be allowed to participate in state counselling either.
NEET 2022 Counselling – Mop Up Round for Deemed/ Central Universities/Central Institute
- Step 1: Fresh Registration for Mop-up Round (not required for earlier resigned candidates)
- Step 2: Choice Filling/ Choice Locking
- Step 3: Seat Allotment for NEET counselling Mop Up Round.
- Step 4: Result Publication
- Step 5: Reporting at the Allotted Medical/ Dental College
- Step 6: List of ten times (of the registered candidates) of a number of Stray vacancies to be sent to Deemed / Central Universities to be exhausted strictly in order of merit.
- Step 7: Final Stray Vacancy Round to be conducted by Deemed/ Central Universities (There will be no Fresh Registration of candidates in Final Stray Vacancy Round)
NEET Counselling 2022 – State Quota
The remaining 85% seats in government medical colleges, 100% seats of state private medical colleges will be filled by respective state authorities. Each state will have its own NEET counselling process.
