When will NEET PG counselling 2023 Start
NEET PG counselling Date : Result of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Postgraduate or NEET PG 2023 was announced last month. Next, candidates who have qualified in the entrance test have to apply for NEET PG counselling to secure a postgraduate medical seat.
Confusion Behined the Counselling Date !
1) We expect the counseling to start by May mid, end or June beginning
2) “Counseling would start only after the internship completion date” is a wrong reference being mentioned and is absolutely not right at all. If any one is telling you that, they have no idea of the process and may have been following only for the last 2 years, or have no idea about the legality of timelines as directed by the Supreme Court in Ashish Ranjan case.
If at all there is a delay it will be due to other issues and not with respect to Internship completion date. Like last year the delay was due to seats addition

Counseling can start before the end of internship completion date. Happens every year. For the last 2 sessions because of delays, there was an issue. In all previous years Counselings started before the internship completion date. All admissions of Round 1 and AI R2 happen have happened before the internship completion end date with a certificate from the Head of the instituion that internship is expected to be completed by this date and a provisional regn certificate. Internship completion date is not relevant for ADMISSIONS. It is only relevant for Course Commencement as explained next.
2) Admissions for AI R1, State R1, AI R2 happen first and COURSES COMMENCE ONLY AFTER AI round 2 admissions. The course commencement date is notified by NMC and only after that date colleges can start the course – this is always after AI R2 in all session in the last 5 years except for the Covid delayed session. Whether you were admitted in Round 1, or Round 2 of AI does not matter. After being admitted in AI R1 seat or state R1 seat, you come back and wait for AI r2 to be over and after the end of AI R2 joining, and after a gap, your courses commence which NMC will notify. This is when you start duties. This is as defined by the Supreme court. It takes exactly 2 months or so from the date of notification of counseling for All India Round 1 to the end of AI R2 – which means courses would commence only 2 months after the start of the counseling. THIS COURSE COMMENCEMENT DATE IS WHAT IS RELEVANT
3) With this as legal reference, there are 2 options MoHFW/DGHS/MCC would explore
Option i) Conduct the counseling starting by May mid or end, run AI R1, State R1, AI R2 admissions till July mid (2 months) and commence courses in July mid (which we strongly think is the reference made by the ASG) and make a special provision for those candidates completing internship by August 11th for Commencing course. If that provision is provided this would be a first time. This we strongly believe is what ASG mentioned during arguments as this is the only scenario where provisions need to be made for candidates completing internship late.
Option ii) Conduct the counseling starting June mid or end, run AI R1, State R1, AI R2 admissions till August mid (2 months) and commence courses in August mid. In this case course commencement is after August 11th and all goes smooth.
Absolutely no reason to conduct counseling after July and start courses in September or conduct counseling after August 11th since internship completion date is August 11th. These were just arguments used for the case, to postpone NEET PG and not in reality. Counselings always start before internship completion date and it is course commencement that matters. If at all the counseling is delayed it is due
The confusion we believe is because ASG wrongly mentioned Counseling starting on July 15th instead of course commencement
ATTACHED Image: Response from NMC on representations received from the Telangana high court. Academic session start would mean Course commencement. Which happens after 2 months of the start of the counseling process start. That is mentioned as July or the ealiest which means counseling has to start by May end of earliest.
